Edouard PHILIPPE was born on November, the 28th of 1970, in Rouen. His father is from Le Havre and his mother from Lille, both from the northern part of France. Edouard attended school where his father taught - first in Rouen, Normandy, and later in Bonn, Germany during his high school years.
Edouard PHILIPPE graduated from the Institute for Political Studies (http://www.sciencespo.fr/en) and later joined the prestigious National School of Administration (ENA, http://www.ena.fr/). He completed his military service in 1994 as an artillery Officer, and remained as reserve military until 2007.
From 1997 to 2002, he served at the "Conseil d’Etat", the French administrative Supreme Court. In 2001, Edouard PHILIPPE joined Le Havre City Council alongside Mayor Antoine RUFENACHT and was appointed Deputy Mayor in charge of legal affairs. In 2002 and he was appointed Managing Director of the UMP, a newly formed party, a centre-right-wing coalition. In 2004, when UMP President Mr JUPPE resigned, Edouard PHILIPPE became an attorney at law and joined New York City law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP., as International Counsel.
From 2004 to 2008, he was a member of the Haute-Normandie Regional Council. In 2007, Mrs Anne LAUVERGEON, Chairwoman of AREVA, appointed him Head of Public Affairs for the Group. At the same time, he became alternate member of the French National Assembly for Seine-Maritime and General Council member.
He was elected Mayor of Le Havre on October, the 24th of 2010, and is now serving his 2nd mandate since his re-election in 2014. As mayor he is known for being accessible and close to the people. On June 17th, 2012, Edouard PHILIPPE was elected as representative of Seine-Maritime, and has occupied a seat at the French National Assembly (parliament) since.
Edouard PHILIPPE is the author of 2 novels "L’heure de vérité" and "Dans l’ombre", political thrillers he co-wrote with his friend Gilles BOYER.
He has been married to Edith CHABRE for 12 years and they have 3 children. Edouard is a real passionate reader with an extensive knowledge of history. He plays football, squash, tennis and badminton, and enjoys some boxing. Edouard also admits to two other passions: cufflinks and beer.
